Improving the skills of Ukrainian psychologists
During April 26-28, 2024, a three-day training for psychologists from educational institutions, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and medical facilities from various regions of Ukraine took place at the Natsionalny Hotel in Kyiv city.
In total, 50 professional psychologists had the opportunity to get acquainted with new methods of providing psychological support, including the author’s methodology of the lecturer – Ewa Dzieduszycka.
The methodology consists of elements of proven therapies: EMDR, EFT, traditional Chinese medicine, and hypnosis. It aims to alleviate the discomfort caused by sudden or constant stress by restoring the autonomic nervous system. The peculiarity lies in the fact that it relies on the use of natural neurological connections, almost without words, and therefore does not require in-depth knowledge of psychology, but simply a certain sensitivity and ability for empathy.
It is important to note that this method is not a therapeutic method in itself, but rather a tool to alleviate the psychological suffering associated with trauma. This tool is very effective in emergency situations to prevent the victim from “getting stuck” in trauma. It is also very effective at different stages of therapy when the patient is overwhelmed with emotions and cannot “express themselves”. The application of this method helps to alleviate panic attacks, insomnia, overcome obsessive and even suicidal thoughts associated with trauma. It is especially interesting that its application does not require the use of many words, i.e., there are virtually no language barriers during the use of this methodology between the psychologist and the patient.
The training “Neuropsychological Desensitization” received many positive reviews from professional psychologists of educational institutions, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and medical facilities from Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Kirovohrad, Kyiv, Odesa, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions. Therefore, this major project to improve the skills of psychologists working in emergency services will continue in order to provide qualitatively new knowledge to as wide a range of professionals as possible.
Angels for Ukraine CF is implementing a project to improve the skills of psychologists together with the All-Ukrainian League of Ukrainian Women (ВЛУЖ Всеукраїнська Ліга Українських Жінок). The “Neuropsychological Desensitization” training, which took place on April 26-28, 2024, was conducted with the financial support of Fondation privée Futur21.
