Psychological Support During Wartime: A Transformative Conference in Kyiv
On July 9, the Discovery Hall of Kyiv Medical University hosted a key interdisciplinary event — the scientific-practical conference “Psychological Support During War: Neuropsychological Desensitization as a Tool for Interdisciplinary Transformation.”
The gathering brought together experts, academics, and young professionals for critical exchange, international partnership, and strategic development of modern psychological care in wartime Ukraine.
The event was organized by the National Council of Psychologists of Ukraine (co-founded by Angels for Ukraine) and Kyiv Medical University.
International Participation
Speakers from Ukraine and France shared innovative perspectives. Ewa Dzieduszycka and Jean-Marie Deschamps highlighted the integration of neuropsychological desensitization and homeopathy into psychotherapy protocols and emphasized the importance of international collaboration in training mental health professionals.
Systemic Challenges and Strategic Responses
During the conference, the “Psychological Education” national initiative was introduced. It aims to cultivate a culture of care and develop a certified network of specialists in neuropsychological desensitization across the country.
Yehor Kucherenko, Head of the Psychology Department at KMU, underscored the importance of institutionalizing psychostabilization methods through university programs and nurturing a new generation of professionals. He positioned KMU as a launchpad for such systemic change.
The event featured the presentation of “Neuropsychological Desensitization in Addressing War Trauma” — a hands-on guidebook and training workbook designed for psychologists and social workers.
As a part of the conference, an international partnership and sharing learning programs topics were presented by Vladyslav Shelokov, the President of Angels for Ukraine, who is also the Deputy Head of the National Council of Psychologists of Ukraine.
“Concrete steps today are not just memorandums on paper — they’re real webinars, participation in leading European conferences, technical support for course development, and live communication with colleagues on both sides of the border. This is joint implementation of projects at the international, national, and local levels.
We are confident that true integration of programs, standards, and people is the key to public trust in psychological assistance. Today’s conference is a vivid confirmation that the goal is becoming reality here and now,” highlighted Vladyslav during his speech.
